Belize and Guatemala held discussions today at the OAS Adjacency Zone Office on the future of relations between the two countries following the International Court of Justice (ICJ) decision.
Belize’s Foreign Minister, Hon. Francis Fonseca, and Guatemala’s Foreign Minister, H.E. Carlos Ramiro Martínez, met with OAS Secretary General H.E. Albert Ramdin and Ambassadors representing the Group of Friends.
Among the issues discussed were continued economic assistance and the role of the Organization of American States (OAS) in supporting peace, stability and constructive engagement between Belize and Guatemala in the aftermath of the ICJ decision.
The meeting also focused on maintaining dialogue and cooperation between the two countries, with the Group of Friends continuing to play a supporting role in efforts to strengthen relations.
Minister Fonseca was accompanied by Ambassador Oscar Arnold, Chief Executive Officer for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade; Ambassador Ayesha Borland, Director of International Affairs (Multilateral); Ambassador Alfonso Gahona, Director of International Affairs (Bilateral); and Foreign Service Officer Idelso Leslie.
