Multi-Agency Operation Results in Seizure of Drug Shipment, Aircraft, and Arrests

Belizean security forces conducted an operation in the Neuland area of the Corozal District on April 10, resulting in the seizure of approximately 551.39 kilograms of suspected cocaine, a Cessna aircraft, and the arrest of two Mexican nationals according to a press release from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Authorities say they tracked the aircraft after its departure from South America, using information shared by partner countries. A phased operation was then carried out, with intelligence units monitoring known and suspected landing sites. This was followed by coordinated deployments by specialized units to targeted locations.

At approximately 6:14 p.m., the aircraft landed in the Neuland area. Law enforcement personnel moved in, secured the aircraft and its contents, and detained the two Mexican nationals believed to be the pilots. Two Belizean nationals were also detained at the scene.
The Ministry has indicated that not all details are being released at this time, as an investigation is ongoing to identify individuals connected to the shipment and related activities. Further updates will be provided as information becomes available.
The operation was coordinated by the Joint Intelligence Operations Centre (JIOC), with participation from the Belize Police Department, Belize Defence Force, Belize Coast Guard, and the Customs Department.
