Female BDF Soldier Killed In RTA After Attending Fellow Soldier’s Funeral

Belize Defence Force Lance Corporal 37-year-old Roxannie Goff died and eight others were injured after their transport van overturned at mile 43 George Price Highway near Belmopan.

Initial investigation revealed that the BDF van was heading towards Belize City, and transporting soldiers who were returning from the funeral of BDF Private Micha Miguel, which was held earlier in the day at Hopkins in southern Belize.

On Thursday, August 11th,2022, at about 6:40 p.m., Police visited an area between miles 43 and 44 on the George Price Highway. Upon arrival, they observed a Grey Toyota 4 Runner off the left shoulder of the highway when traveling towards Belize City with the front extensively damaged and a white transit van off the left shoulder of the highway turning towards Belmopan likewise with the front extensively damaged. They also observed the motionless body of Roxannie Goff, a 37-year-old, Belize Defence Force Soldier lying on the said side of the highway.

Information received that Jacqueline Cabral, 26-year-old, Belizean of Placencia Village, Stann Creek District was driving the Grey 4 Runner on the George Price Highway traveling in the direction from Belize City towards Belmopan, and upon reaching Cotton Tree Village between mile 43 and 44 a bus driven at the time by Nelson Antonio Coreas Siliezar, 56-year-old, Salvadorian National of Cotton Tree Village was traveling in the same direction in front of Jacqueline Cabral and suddenly made a left turn to go across the highway in order to change direction but swerve back to his right to avoid colliding into the rear of the bus, Jacqueline Cabral swerved over to the left-hand side of the road and as a result collided into the front portion of white Transit van driven at the time by L/Cpl. Danderson a Belize Defence Force Soldier who at the time was traveling on the highway in a direction from Belmopan City towards the direction of Belize City.

As a result, L/Cpl. Danderson lost control of the vehicle, flipped over several times, and ended up off the left side of the highway. Traveling in the white van were (1) Roxannie Goff, who received head and body injuries and died on the scene, (2) Deon Flowers B.D.F soldier, (3) Raheem Flowers B.D.F,(4) Ivor Cacho B.D.F soldier, (5) Kara’L Roches B.D.F soldier, (6) Justin Myers B.D.F soldier (7) Jamar Ortiz B.D.F soldier, (8) Ronald Flowers B.D.F soldier, and (9) Jaheem Jones B.D.F, soldier. All the victims received various degrees of injuries to their bodies.
