Kim Barrow, wife of Belize Prime Minister Dean Oliver Barrow has been diagnosed with breast cancer and has traveled to Florida to seek medical attention. A press release issued today in Belize says that “The Office confirms that Mrs. Barrow has been diagnosed with breast cancer and will be starting treatment as soon as the most viable treatment option has been determined. The treatment is not available in Belize.”
Mrs. Barrow was appointed by her husband Special Envoy for Women and Children shortly after he won General Elections in Belize in 2008. Mrs. Barrow’s statement adds that “As an official advocate for women and children and someone who has always been supportive of the fight against cancer, Mrs. Barrow thought it important not to conceal her diagnosis from the public. While the length of treatment and thus her stay abroad is still to be specified, Mrs. Barrow hopes to be back home by Christmas. In the meantime, she appreciates the solidarity and prayers of all well-wishers.”
In a separate press release issued today, Mr. Barrow’s office stated that:
“Prime Minister, the Hon. Dean Barrow, left the country yesterday, Sunday, 6th November. He is accompanying his wife, Mrs. Kim Simplis Barrow, to Miami, Florida, where Mrs. Barrow will seek urgent medical attention.
