The Belize Costa Maya Festival Committee has today announced the first confirmed contestant for the Reina de la Costa Maya Pageant set for 5 August  2010, the first event to start the Costa Maya Festival on Ambergris Caye, Belize.

Miss Diana Ingrid Martinez Pineda, Miss El Salvador, this week confirmed her attendance and submitted her credentials and portfolio to the pageant committee. Seven countries in the region have confirmed their participation at the pageant and will be announced during the weeks leading up to the event.  These other countries are Belize, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua and Panama, all vying for the crown, currently held by Nicaragua’s Maritza Rivas.

International Puerto Rican Reggaeton artists Angel y Khriz will highlight the festival on International Night, Saturday, August 7. The festival promises to be another spectacular show this year with many more exciting and fun performances.

King of Belize BrukDown Music Wilfred Peters Ailing

Mr. Wilfred Peters, the primary exponent of traditional Belize Creole music, the BrukDown, is recovering at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in Belize City after an apparent heart complication over the weekend.  Mr. Peters, who is 79, is the lead vocalist and accordion player in the well known Boom and Chime band that regularly tours in Belize and other countries. BrukDown music is sung in Creole. Mr. Wilfred Peters has received many awards for his music.
